12 days of healthy Christmas activities for families
Christmas is a magical season. As a family, you can make it even better by having a good time together. Our list of 12 Healthy Christmas Days for Families is a great way to add Christmas-themed activities to have fun throughout the holiday season.
Play Christmas Charades
Charades are fun for all ages and only your imagination and Christmas cheer are required. Another great thing about charades is that you can only play for a short time or for an hour. Here is a Christmas Charades word list to get you started, but you can definitely add it yourself!
Enjoy Christmas yoga
When we want to move and nature doesn't work together, we turn to yoga. This yoga video is Christmas themed and is aimed at children.
Volunteer at a local service organization
The holidays can be a difficult time for many people. Check with your local church or community center to see if there are any organizations that need more help during the busy Christmas season. From helping sort canned goods in a local pantry, to ringing bells for the Salvation Army, to wrapping gifts for local charities, there are so many things to do in a short time.
Have dinner under the Christmas tree as a family.
One of our favorite traditions is to have dinner on a picnic blanket next to our lighted Christmas tree the day we set up our tree. You can plan and prepare meals together, and enjoy a family meal together while admiring the beauty of your tree and discussing Christmas plans. Another idea is to invite another family to join you and share the benefits of family dining, e.g. B. Spending time together, communicating, being a role model for healthy eating as a parent, sharing family values, and more.
Do a race together
Sign up for a fun run or a 5k run to enjoy as a family. Christmas holidays are a great time to be active together. Go to active.com to find a race near you.
De-interference and donate
Clean extra and lightly used toys, jackets, and blankets to donate. The toys that your kids no longer play with could make Christmas special for another child. Your jackets and blankets that you no longer use can bring warmth and comfort to someone else.
Serve at the shelter
Are you an animal loving family? Call your local animal shelter or the Humane Society to see what physical needs they have and if they need volunteers to help the furry friends over the holiday season.
Prepare an extra meal
Bring dinner to a new mom, older neighbor, or family in need. Find a way to help a neighbor, whether it be by preparing a meal like this lasagna, shoveling out the snow, or raking leaves.
Play the Christmas Movie Workout Game
Assign exercises to specific words, phrases, or music. These are a few examples, but your family can develop their own exercises for movies you love.
Play outdoors
Play in the snow, make a snowman, go ice skating, or have a snowball fight! Enjoy nature in any weather. If you live in a place without snow, you can have your snowball fight with pairs of socks clumped together, or organize a family or neighborhood soccer game.
Do a family Christmas dance
Create dance moves to a favorite family Christmas song and have someone film your family's finished dance to enjoy over and over again. You can also add dressing to the fun. For a year, my family sang and played a Christmas carol popular in southern Louisiana and shared it with family and friends on YouTube. We had a lot of fun together, got our bodies moving and celebrated the season at the same time. Another way to prevent moving is to take the family for a walk while singing the most popular Christmas carols.
Go on a Christmas light adventure
One of our favorite Christmas traditions is to spend an evening with Christmas lights. At home we surprise the children with a ticket for a Christmas light tour in our magical van. The children wear Christmas pajamas for the ride. They love to present their ticket when they step into the van so I can hit it and hot chocolate and a bag of popcorn are always waiting for them in the van. We'll also take a walking tour of some of our favorite neighborhoods.
We wish you peace, joy and happiness in this holiday season, as well as plenty of family fun and solidarity through joint action.
