A perfect baked potato is so easy to make and this easy method is my go-to. Although you can make it quickly in the microwave, baking it in the oven will brown and crisp the outside. After cutting, the inside is soft and fluffy.
How to bake a potato in the oven

I like to use red potatoes, but you can use Yukon Gold or Idaho as well. You'll also need olive oil spray, not to be confused with cooking spray, and salt. When you're ready to bake, follow these steps:

First, preheat the oven to 425 and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.

Prepare the potatoes by washing and drying them well. Then prick the potatoes all over with the tines of a fork

Next, season the potatoes with salt and place on the prepared baking sheet and drizzle olive oil all over.

Season generously with kosher salt and place in the preheated oven to bake.

Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until the skin is golden brown and crispy and you can easily pierce the potatoes with a small knife.

Baked potato from the microwave

Cook the potato for 3 to 4 minutes, then flip and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes.

For each additional potato you cook, add 1 minute for each side.

If still hard, continue cooking in 1 minute increments until potato is tender

Tips for the perfect baked potato

Don't wrap it in foil. Although you might be tempted to wrap the potato in foil, this doesn't give you the truly crispy skin we're looking for here. Leaving the potatoes unwrapped will give you the best results.

Salt outside. The skin is full of fiber, so don't throw it away! To make it tasty, you should salt it so that it is tasty and crunchy.

how to serve

Depending on how hungry you are, you can eat half or a whole potato as a side dish. Serve this baked potato with some sour cream or some butter, salt and pepper. Or load it up with sour cream, crumbled bacon, shredded cheese and chives to make a stuffed baked potato.
